 Pretty In Black Pre-Launch Tour

Book blurb Pretty in Black:

Some Things are Pretty. Some Things are Black. Love is both.

[Ellie Piper]

She wanted to die. He arose from the grave. He was sent to kill her. She was trained to kill those of his kind. But fate had other plans. He searched for 119 years to find her. & There's no way in hell he's letting her go. Dead or Alive. They're fated.

[Marcus Marble]

How far would you go to be with the one you love? Would you die for her? Would you kill for her? What if the only reason you're still alive is because of her? What if the reason you came back from the dead, was to be with her? But what if your job was to kill her, but you fell in love instead? And now you're being hunted by your own kind?

Destroy? Or be Destroyed?

Book blurb Black Satin:

[May 28, 2012 release date]

What if you weren’t who you thought you were?
What if your whole life changed in an instant and you were released to a new identity?

What if you were forced to kill the one you love?
What if everything you knew wasn’t real, and you awaken to a new world?

What if love could take you to unknown places?

How beautiful is death really?

Marcus Marble has disappeared from Ellie’s life, and she needs answers to questions and he’s the only one who can answer them.

How is her sister back from the dead, and why is Ellie still alive?

When Ellie realizes Marcus isn’t coming back, she is forced to move on with her life the best way she can, in hopes of finding the answers herself, but when people at school begin to be viciously murdered, and Giles reveals to her a life changing secret, she decides to investigate the possible truth of it. What she discovers is more than she thought she would.

The only time Ellie feels normal is when she’s around Walter, the new guy at school. And normal is how she wants to feel, now that Marcus is gone from her life.

But Walter may not be all that he seems, either, and she just might spiral in to an even more dark world, she never thought possible.

And when it occurs to her that Marcus has made the decision to pass on through to the afterlife, during the Risorgimento, she races against time to stop him, while knowing she has feelings for Walter, too.

Will she make it in time to stop Marcus from passing through, and if she does, what will she tell Walter?

Her heart will have to make the final decision.

But will the choice be worth dying for?

  1.   Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

  I cannot.

Haha, just kidding. I'm not sure what to say really. Right Now, it is actually May 11, 2012 and it is 8:27 a.m. and I've been up for about 22 hours now with no sleep. Yep, because I don't sleep. Much. I'm listening to the Black Satin soundtrack and being productive and answering this post early so I can stay on schedule. :)

  1. What are your current projects?
Raven in the Grave—Book Three in the Pretty in Black Series
Frankie's Monster—A book about a Xombie and the girl who loves him.

  1. Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I began writing movie scripts because I wanted to be a filmmaker, but that somehow evolved to writing novels :)

  1. What sparked the idea for your novel?
I believe this question could be Googled right now and would get at least about 25 or more hits LOL! But, I was hanging out in a cemetery one night and saw an apparition—a guy and a girl, laying on the graves. Unable to shake the image from my mind, I began writing the very next day.

  1. If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Never having to sleep, [because eventually, whether I like it or not, I'm gonna have to go to sleep because I'm human] plus I'd like the ability to write 3 books at once without getting overwhelmed/confused.

  1. If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?

Sylvia Plath. Or Edgar Allan Poe.

  1. How do you react to a bad review?
I don't. Plus, I'm not sure there really is such a thing as a bad review. Reviews are reader feedback and the personal opinions of each individual based on his or her literary preferences. Reviews aren't intended to be great all the time. Not only would this be incredible for an author to be able to please every reader out there, but it would look really false and...who would care about this book? If people are reading and reviewing then this is always good. A book that is being talked about is in the good zone. A book that no one has heard about is in the bad zone. It's only ever bad if people feel complete indifference towards a book, not if they give it a 1 star and say it's the worst piece of crap they've ever read. Plus, sometimes this opinion can change overnight for any given reason. When I first read Twilight, I would've given it -8 stars [hahaha] but now I'd give it 10+. I also had a reader give me a low star rating, only to come back a day or so later and change the entire thing. It happens.

  1. Can you see yourself in any of your characters?

Yes. I relate to Marcus and Ellie both for entirely different reasons.
  1. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
Not too sure, haven't really thought about it. But if I could choose a visionary I would pick Tim Burton.

  1. How did you come up with the title?
The Raveonettes. Book one is named after one of their albums [Pretty in Black] and a song called Sleepwalking, that has they lyrics "...Pretty in Black." Book Two, is named after another one of their songs called "Black Satin." The third book, Raven in the Grave is named after my favorite album thus far, by them. The last book has no relation at all. It's just called Evermore, named after the creatures in the book, and also takes on a double meaning as Marcus and Ellie become eternal.

  1. Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Yes. There are several. If anyone is interested, they can head over to my Pretty in Black blog at http://evermores.blogspot.com and check out the soundtracks.

The Theme Song/Marcus & Ellie's song/Song that inspired this series is: "My Time's Up" by the Raveonettes. It appears twice. Once, in book one at the Halloween Homecoming dance, and then again at the very end of Black Satin. If these books were movies, then that song would be important and in those two scenes it would play.

I pretty much have a song for every main scene in the books. I think the songs are really, really important. Perhaps I will do a post on the Evermore blog about each song, why I chose it, how it fits, and what scene it pertains to.

  1. Print or Ebook?
I like both for different reasons. However, at first I didn't think I was going to like e-books but now I see the need for them, and the potential they have to evolve and make reading experiences 10x as more awesome, so if you ask this again in two years, I might say E-book!! But Print books are nice to look at and collect in a bookshelf, especially if they have gorgeous cover art. But they're a hassle to carry around, and if you're a person as fickle as me, one moment you'll want to read one thing, and the next you'll want to swap over and read something else. E-books are perfect for this reason. Also, you can access e-books much faster. And if you travel you can take all your favorite reads with you!

  1. Do you work with an outline, or just write?
When I began writing Pretty in Black, I just wrote it. But as it evolved into a series, I had to start collecting notes, dialogue tid-bits and more, so I could keep up with the story arc. So, it's a mixture of both :)

  1. What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Write a book :) One word and sentence at a time.
