SCBWI Eastern PA Chapter

Illustrators Contest

Attention all SCBWI Illustrators!

• Submit an original art piece to be used as the logo for the 2010 Pocono Retreat.
• Next year’s theme will be
  TAKE A WALK ON THE WONDROUS SIDE.
• The winning illustration will be printed on T-shirts and will be available for purchase at the retreat.

Take A Slide On The Wild Side almost done!!!

I added the snow. I used white watercolor straight from the tube and used a dry brush to apply.  I had a problem with the ropes that are supposed to be attached to the mouse and the book.
I had to repaint over the ropes because I didn't like how it flowed.

I didn't like how the space behind Ella was empty. I decided to add an eraser sliding down the hill on crayons. Dry watercolor washes were added to the trees.

I painted in the eyes to give them expressions. The mouses skiis were turned into pencils. I added more washes to the tree barks.

I began by sketching out Ella on the open book, and a mouse that is pulling the book down the hill and the trees are surprised and cheering. I applied several washes of watercolor.

I started off with a sketch that would depict my character Ella the elephant in a Pocono landscape. Instead of a slide I used an open  book. I used colored pencils to show how colors would work before I started the watercolor process.
